Ridge Jr. Devils win 4-2 over South Brunswick

The Ridge Jr. Devils won an exciting game by a score of 4-2 against a determined South Brunswick team on Sunday, December 6 at the Bridgewater Sports Arena.

Ridge opened the scoring at 2:13 in the first period with a tally by Matt Killian, on a rush assisted by line mate Chris Mastroianni and defenseman Tommy Carpenter.  Late in the period South Brunswick threatened to score in a 5 on 3 power play, but Ridge killed off the penalty time.  With just 13 seconds left in the first period, # 89 of South Brunswick on a breakaway was robbed by goalie Matt Manley who stacked the pads for the save.

At 1:36 in the second period, forward Chris Fersini won a face-off and took the puck all the way up ice to score Ridge’s second goal.  At 7:11 in the second period, on a Ridge power play, Brandon Grogan scored on a hard shot from the point, putting the score at 3-0.  Midway through the second period Ted Zarabara took over the goaltending duties.  At 5:55 in the second period, South Brunswick scored their first goal in a 3 on 1 rush up ice.  Little more than two minutes later, Ridge responded.  Cycling the puck with multiple shots on goal, Matt Killian scored, assisted by line mates Chris Mastroianni and Evan Windisch.

The final goal of the game was scored by South Brunswick at 3:38 in the third period, on a wrap around shot.   Although the South Brunswick squad kept pressing, the Ridge defense held up, with strong work from Tommy Carpenter, Madison Fischl, Derek Vogt, and Peyton Lynn.  Late in the period, Joshua Raff of Ridge hit the post in a short-handed attempt.  This well-played game ended with a 4-2 win for the Ridge Jr. Devils.  Both teams appeared to thoroughly enjoy the contest.
