Ridge Jr. Devils loses 3-1 to Hillsborough

 RIDGE LOSES CLOSE GAME TO HILLSBOROUGH

The Ridge Junior Devils lost a close game to Hillsborough Middle School, 3 -1, on Sunday, January 28, 2007 at BSA.

The two (2) teams were very evenly matched, with both teams playing their hearts out.  There were several friendly rivalries, including cousins Matt Killian, leading scorer for Ridge going up against  Jeff Killian, a strong defenseman for Hillsborough.  Wolfpack Bantam A teammates, Tim Bracaglia, defenseman for Ridge, Alex Vitale, Hillsborough forward and Jeff Killian, Hillsborough defenseman, played extra hard, vying for bragging rights.  The first period ended in a scoreless tie due in large part to the excellent play by both defenses. 

Just about one (1) minute and twenty (20) seconds into the second period, Ridge went ahead on a goal by Matt Killian assisted by defenseman Nigel Wardrop.  Ridge maintained the 1 – 0 lead until just past the half-way mark of the second period when Hillsborough scored a power play goal to tie the score at 1 -1.  Hillsborough’s power play goal was scored by Danny Congiusta, assisted by Brett Siegrist. 

At the end of the second period, cousins, Jeff Killian of Hillsborough and Matt Killian of Ridge both ended up in the penalty box on separate infractions.  The second period ended in a 1 – 1 tie. 

The third period remained tied for almost nine (9) minutes when Alex Vitale scored despite heroic efforts by the Ridge defense.  Vitale’s unassisted goal gave Hillsborough a 2- 1 lead.  Hillsborough sealed their victory on a power play goal with less than a minute left in the game.  Hillsborough’s final goal was scored by Brett Siegrist, assisted by Mike Laneve. 

The goaltending for Ridge was shared by Ted Zarabara and Matt Manley, while C. Moran was the keeper for Hillsborough. 

Ridge and Hillsborough will meet again in early March in what should be another good game, although the friendly rivalry will be noticeably absent as the Wolfpack trio will be playing at Districts.
